Rachel has worked in the field of both formal and informal education and professional theatre for seventeen years.
For eight years she was a lecturer in Performing Arts at Exeter College of FE. She moved to the Northcott Theatre in 1999 launching and developing the Northcott Young Company and Northcott Community Company. As the Associate Director for Participation and Education she was part of the senior management team. Here she developed and co-ordinated an extensive programme of participatory activities and projects including summer schools, new writing initiatives, street theatre projects, musicals in a day and many partnership projects within the local community working across the age groups. She also directed a large number of youth and community productions.
Rachel now works on a freelance basis as an actor, facilitator, director and trainer. Recent projects include working in schools delivering performance workshops on: drugs and alcohol (devised with young people at the local Pupil Referral Unit); preparing for work experience; homophobia and bullying. She has recently worked with the local museum co-delivering a project with young people on sex and history using objects from the Wellcome collection.
She is a Lead Practitioner with The Theatre Royal Plymouth, having directed for The People’s Company and leading workshops for youth and community participants and workshops in local schools.
She regularly works in training environments within health care, local authority and education using theatre practices as tools for training and learning.
She also co-runs a Murder Mystery Entertainment Company.
