Employment in the cultural sector has grown steadily over the past five years, increasing by 20% between 2011 and 2016 to 654,000 jobs, according to newly released Government figures.

Of the eight DCMS sectors, its growth was second only to the creative industries, which grew by 25% across the same period. This compares to 11% growth across all DCMS sectors, and 8% growth across the entire economy.

John Kampfner, CEO of the Creative Industries Federation, said the “impressive” figures proved why the Government must safeguard the creative sector ahead of Brexit.
