Since its inception in 1987, Artswork has built up specialist experience of work with young people, youth culture, and the arts, and is widely recognised by national and regional policy makers.
Artswork has a strong priority for work with young people at risk and training. The main focus of our programme of work is in the Arts Council England, south east region, however, we continue to feed our work into national frameworks and policy initiatives.
As an independent organisation, partnerships are important to us. We work across the region with many different partners including Arts Council England, south east. Across the country we work with many different partners including local authorities, arts organisations and venues, Regional Arts Council, youth, health and social services providers, artists and young people.
Artswork’s definition of the arts is broad ranging. Artswork recognises that in relation to arts work with young people it is essential to remain open to new forms of arts practice, innovation and to experiment with existing forms. Artswork therefore avoids making hard distinctions between the arts and popular culture.
