SoCo a not-for-profit community music project based in Southampton offered young people the opportunity to undertake voluntary placements throughout the summer holidays which focused on developing an Urban Youth Music and Arts Festival in the city last September 2011. Young people on the placements were mentored to develop, market and deliver the event over 6 weeks throughout the summer holidays, with the festival taking place on Saturday 10 September 2011.

Placements were available for young people aged 15-18. The project provided opportunities for young people considered “disadvantaged” or who would otherwise not access such opportunities.
